this thread is for all the jig jitsu practitioners on thecoli. goat style. this is the martial art that defines what people thought martial arts should be....the small guy defeating the big opponent. what is your belt? your favourite technique?

im all about that eddie bravo 10th planet system, lots of people shyt on it in the past but it proved it worked by the amazing performance at metamoris (grappling ppv - eddie bravo vs royler gracie)

I'm really digging this setup right now. its always there

Brown belt 2 stripes. I prefer to roll as close to reality as possible so i dont do spider guard, mainly closed and open guard. I enjoy butter fly sweeps. In particular, placing my opponents first in his stomach and then using a hook to sweep him over effortlessly. Same thing from half guard. From closed guard i do a cross sleeve grip and then do a hip bump sweep without wrapping my arm over the elbow. Just grab the wrist or sleeve and bump them back.

My game is to sweep from the bottom, and submit from side control or mount. Knee on belly from side control. With gi i enjoy wrapping the gi all the way around my opponents neck from mount. I enjoy the ezikiel from mount or side control. I enjoy collar chokes from the bottom. I use collar chokes to sweep while my opponent defends. I can collar choke from any position. I have trouble with people who play spider guard and are very strong but i learned, recently actually that you have to be patient with spider guard practioners and wear their legs down if their guard seems impassable, They will break eventually. My strength is in the scramble. I am not easy to submit but i am suceptible to foot locks which i tap to without much resistance because i dont want to gamble with my legs.

I dont train as much as id like to so my game isnt as good as it should be but :manny: hopefully i can help my training partners.

As an old high school and bit college wrestler, I prefer side control to full mount.

when you come into class for the first time, no matter how good you think you are, you are going to tap. so leave your ego at the door. are you thinking of doing gi or no gi? i prefer no gi because its more like submission wrestling which is my forte. gi is too archaic but it necessary and no gi is more practical imo.

remember to wear a mouth guard because teeth are expensive.

don't be afraid to tap and let people know that you are new and it is your first time in class.

first week is always hard because you won't have a clue whats going on when you roll with someone but eventually you will catch on to what people are tryingg to do. work on your defence first and set small goals gradually. ex. do not tap for the whole class.

what are any of you jiu jitsu practitioners favourite techniques that are high percentage? i already posted mine which is the darce choke to the japanese necktie. right now I'm all about the electric chair to the vaporizer. been working on that ever since bravo made royler look like a bytch.

Iwent to my first class Wednesday. Definitely going to commit towards it. I run around On average for 6-7 miles every other day so i thought that I would give that much of workout for 1hour class but at the end I was sweating. And they had me do stuff with a gi. And I don't know too much about jiu jitsu but figured I could get into it based on a lot of the things that come with practicing jiu jitsu

i have some bjj questions.

i trained jiu jitsu a couple of years ago for a bout 12 months (not very consistently either)

I only graded twice so two tip white belt... recently i've started training again mma classes/muay thai.

My following questions are just about no gi bjj (about half of the mma classes end with straight wrestling/bjj rolls)

What're your approach to getting the initial advantageous position e.g both standing or both on knees .. do you go for takedowns or try and pull guard? What's the thought process here? (i've never really been able to straight get myself into the advantageous position from the beginning).
- from my experience this has always been an area not really covered much in training as techniques always are taught already in position e.g side control/mount/guard.

Is there any online sources/youtube channels that helped you build your foundation in BJJ?

What kind of technique/strategy would you recommend to someone who isn't overly flexible about 5'10, decent strength/speed?

Also, I eventually am going to be a dentist. In fact, I'm studying for my DAT right now. Do you think that doing martial arts such as jiu jjitsu or judo would clash with my profession as I will
be using my hands alot.
