Oddly luxury cars that are not European in origin are not considered "true" luxury. BMW and Mercedes have been

I remember reading this article. Whats the difference between the best driving car in its class and the best car in general? I always thought that the ATS was the new contender to the 3 (or beating it completely), and most of it was due to the bland interior and electronic steering from what I read.
Regarding my personal experience I actually went and drove an IS350 before picking up my 3 because I was pre-qualified for a great interest rate. I was just bored by it in general. Though the HP was comparable it just felt so slow and disconnected. The 3 gave me pretty good feedback in turns and felt tight and responsive, but that's just my personal opinion. As for the ES and 5 comparisons...I have no idea
Best implies implies that as a whole, it does everything well.
The Cadillac has the best and sharpest chassis in the class according to most. Its flawed because its got a small trunk and back seat compared to the others and it still has an older 6 speed automatic instead of a 7 or 8 speed.
Ah so its new drivers car of its class.
To further the German engineering comparison. for those reading that don't know, the ATS chassis was designed using the E46 chassis as a benchmark.
Most enthusiasts regard the E46 as the last "true" BMW.
Audi stopped sharing VW parts. They didn't move production to Mexico. Their cars aren't marketed towards the same target market.
Totally agree, but that's the buying experience. The germans demand respect for the legacy and that flows through to premium they put on the car. It's what stops peoople from buying Kia's and Hyuandai's
I'm loving the Lexus so far and have gotten some compliments, the real test is when I go out at night. I use to pull chics of the strength of the car so we'll how the lexus plays lol/.
No they didn't. You can drive a Bentley and find similar switches that you would find in Golf, A6, or Gallardo.
This, 100x over. They won't be able to attain that respect until they win things more. Ironically Honda's best production heydays were when they were killing things w/ Senna behind the wheel of their race division.
There is an intangibility that a German car always brings to a driving experience, BMW and Audi more than MB, unless you get into the AMG line-up. Toyota just can't seem to put their finger on that, most will always say it feels artificial, and I'd tend to agree. Plus their designs have gone to shyt over the last 5 years. Nissan had this for many years, but as technology has grown, they lost the ability to keep it tied with the tangibility of driving that the German's bring.

So why is Audi in the class of BMW and Mercedes, yet Acura's and Infiniti's aren't? Is it really just because of German Engineering?
Because VW is a waaaaay larger company than Honda or Nissan and can afford to dump tons of money into their smaller companies.
People on here act like Audi has been some juggernaut forever but they really only starting making a mark within the past 6-8 years. Before, they were on that Acura, Infiniti level of importance. VW started getting their shyt together around the middle 2000's and really started making waves.
And I don't know what Audis guys on here are driving when talking about driving experience. Maybe the S and RS models but other than that, they drive just like any other FWD luxury car. The A5 2.0T is yawn inducing. Now interiors are a different story although the new Lexuses are great as well.
