Life expectancy was only that low because there was so many infant deaths back in the day. So it skewed the overall average. We just didn't know how how to treat sick babies back then.
But it wasn't like fully grown healthy adults were dying of heart attacks at 30. As long as people made it past that vulnerable infant stage they still lived pretty long lives. Even in the 1800's the life expectancy for the average person was over 70.
