Never been a rapid Common fan, though I loved his 2007 album, when I was in a way different place in my life, and needed that kind of content. I have good memories of this summer, watching The Light on BET in my little room on a tiny television, just pure nostalgia of being young, not even really understanding the depth of relationships and love. And, somehow, it always felt like this kind of romance was never going to happen, and yet you felt it might all the time.

Even now that this track is kind of a hipster staple in lounges and coffee shops, I still feel good when I hear it.

This album is a personal favorite of mine.

This was the era you could get the physical CD from the hood music shops like a week before they came out. You would have to ask, as they wouldn’t have shyt out on display early. You just had to know and ask and they would sell it to you. Got this shyt early from Coops off 87th. My Chicago heads know.

Common had a lil meet and greet at George’s music I think. This was like a few days before the album came out. I’m a young nikka out there dolo. But it’s a group of nikkas in line talking about how Commom was weak and one was like I’m gonna challenge that nikka to a battle when he pulls up. So he pulls up in a truck while we were waiting in line and when they got out, these nikkas turned into some groupies :mjlol:

I get inside and give him my CD to sign and he was like, where you get this from :usure: He was just fukking around though. He was mad cool. I watched nikkas have a lil cypher outside afterwards. Fun times.

CLASSIC. CLASSIC. CLASSIC.
From the rhymes to the beats, the subject matter to the artistry and mixing. Sonically upper tier shyt.
"Masterwork. That whole era at Electric Lady produced some of the most mature high-quality creative decisions that I think rap music and soul music at that point had seen!"
