The rivalry between Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown climaxed in a shootout on February 25, 2001, when Lil' Kim and her entourage bumped into rapper Capone—one half of rap duo Capone-N-Noreaga and Brown's friend—and his crew outside Hot 97's offices in New York City. More than 20 shots were fired between the two groups and resulted in one of Capone's associates getting shot in the back.

The shootout was allegedly Kim's reaction to Brown's verses on Capone-N-Noreaga's joint "Bang, Bang," where Brown dissed Kim for mourning Biggie Smalls' death. Brown tried to reconcile with Kim shortly after the shooting but Kim rejected the apology. Four years later, Kim was sentenced to a year in prison for lying about her involvement in the incident. The two still haven't squashed their beef.
