In today’s trailer for the new DJ movie We Are Your Friends, Zac Efron says, “To be a DJ all you need is a laptop, some talent, and one track.”

That is, unless you’re a rapper.

Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa are trying to break into the industry, Paris Hilton-style. The pair are demanding a king’s ransom – $60k (in the same range as Armin Van Buuren) and $25k respectively – to spin at parties, on top of all the usual amenities the superstars are used to indulging in. As if that wasn’t enough of a reason to hate this story, here’s the kicker: Wiz Khalifa’s new alias is DJ DaddyKat.

The two are making their debut at Anaheim’s hip-hop club Heat Ultra Lounge – Wayne on June 16 and DJ WizKatDaddy next Friday Night.

Like I was telling someone earlier

DJing at this point is basically about building a brand.....basically just get famous for anything (whether that be TV, internet, rap, production, touring, radio, modeling, or making a fool out of yourself) and then charge to DJ. All these venues care about is packing the building anyways.....so basically if you want to DJ on that level that's your job/goal. Otherwise you have to become the promoter and book/pack out the crowd yourself or stick to djing weddings, private events, bday parties, etc.

Sucks for real djs (like myself)....but it is what it is. I'm pretty much over it. Hip Hop as a culture has been raped and technology has made it worse. There's simply no barrier of entry and it's made it so anyone can wake up and enter the game. It's basically a popularity contest. Like NaS said, Hip Hop is dead, so just get your money.
