as i've listened to ye's late registration on repeat since early this mornin'; an album that was co produced by jon brion (producer who produced fiona apple's 2nd and 3rd albums and also worked on the 1st) i think of fiona apple's album tidal which was 1 of the albums that influenced ye while makin' late registration, the other was portishead's dummy album :wow:

i found the interview where ye even tells fiona how her tidal album influenced him :wow:

KW: Now, when I listen to your shyt, I hear similarities. I actually wanted to work with him so I could be like the rap version of you. That was one of my main goals. The albums that inspired me for Late Registration were your first one, Tidal [1996] and Portishead’s Dummy [1994], but especially your lyrics and how you sing. How is your vocabulary so ill? Were you tight in vocabulary in your school?

so i'll start this thread off with these 2 albums

I didn't start listening to 89s non hip hop music until the 2000s. Lotta gems in that decade.

Portishead always deserves a mention and they were basicallyy gateway to white music :russ:. If you like portishead you may wanna check out hooverphonic. They were around during the 90s doing the trip hop thing.

Sneaker pimps first album was dope and they were at their best when kelly ali was singing for them.

Bjork did her thing on homogenic

And if you haven't checked for attica blues please do
