These hot takes are too much. I don't know why Atlanta did what they did, but Penix is a legit top quarterback in that draft. His issue is he has blown out both of his knees so he isn't as mobile as the othe quarterbacks in the draft. However Penix is the best pure passer in the draft. The dude's left arm literally took his team to the national title game. He was the runner up to the Heisman trophy winner and in my opinion he should have won it because he took his team to the national title game when everybody in the country knew he was going to throw it. Penix is better than Maye, but nobody is shytting on Maye going 4th overall.

Maye going 3rd overall to a team that didn't just shell out a Franchise QB type of contract is absolutely not the same as Penix going 8th overall to Atlanta. And I say this as someone who doesn't think Maye should start right away.

As best I can tell, taking Penix as the heir behind Cousins isn't the issue. The issue is paying Cousins $160M with $100M guaranteed just to take his successor anyway, and the GM is content with Penix not taking his first snap until he's 27-28.

But again, if Atlanta does move off Cousins after a year or two, then nevermind. However, then they have to contend with potentially having to lock up (or trade) Drake London, Bijan and Kyle Pitts before paying Penix, assuming he pans out.

Watch the tape. F*kk yo stats. I just told you Penix was throwing dimes to this dude

What’s more likely, an NFL QB made his WRs, or 3 NFL WRs —-and a system——made his QB

Now sometimes it’s both ie Burrow-Chase-Jefferson, Tua-Waddle-Devonta, presumably Daniels and Nabors/thomas….but traditionally it favors the WR.

You get cases like Mac jones, Justin fields, Haskins, Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez ,Ken Dorsey, Kenny Pickett (Jordan Addison)

The Bears should be the only A+ and the Falcons are not an F; they should at worst be a B and probably even an A because Penix should work out for them.

Williams by himself would have been an A for the Bears, but when they got Rome Odunze, who is arguably the best wide receiver in the draft then you can make a legit argument that the Bears got the best quarterback and best wide receiver in the draft. I like Penix and Harrison a lot too, but Williams and Odunze are their equals.

They should take a bit of a hit for the Cousins contract before drafting Penix, but the pick itself is a B at worst. I've seen a lot of "analysts" say Penix doesn't have a first round grade while in the same breath telling us how JJ McCarthy is a first round pick showed me all of that was agent games....I think the same thing happened with Drake Maye being higher ranked than Jayden.

The NFL is a passing league. You're not going to achieve much going forward with a QB who wasn't asked to actually throw in college. The game manager model only works when the roster around the game manager is INCREDIBLE. Penix deep throwing ability and outside the numbers placement alone is going to cause defensive coordinators some trouble even as a rookie.

I get what you're saying, but the difference is Penix was throwing darts at Indiana. His arm talent being elite has always been a thing. He just got hurt a lot. The Big 10 cats know about him. I remember watching him once trying to figure out why he went to Indiana when he could throw like that.

A decent QB in the league is getting paid 30+ mill a year. Teams should be falling over themselves to draft a good QB on rookie contract to reset their salary cap situation.

I think the Browns do the same in next year's draft
if your team is ass you will waste that rookie contract

so it becomes a cycle of assbutt franchises burning through qb picks

shyte is like playing the lotto HA

Sounds like Powers-Johnson may fall further, lot of rumors about medicals. Also some strange rumors about attitude which may be BS. Watching him go thru the draft process he seems like a great dude to me, maybe scouts are just blowing smoke.
Powers reminds me of Khalil coming out of the draft and damn have we missed having him on the team.

I feel people are OD'ing on their coverage of the Falcons taking Penix. It's a stupid pick on many different levels especially factoring in the Cousins contract/Penix age & injury history/etc...but you got folks out here like Rich Eisen calling it the most head scratching pick he's ever seen. I can point to plenty. Al Davis alone has 2-3 in my lifetime that made me go "wtf?"

My Draft Grades

A+: Vikings, Eagles, Lions, Commanders

I think Detroit and Philly was a DB away and they both got potential shutdown corners. Good chance one of them is playing for a SB. Vikings whole franchise was at stake bc if they didn’t get a QB Jefferson likely demands a trade. PLUS got Dallas turner. They won the draft.
Still think Lions need to address pass rush. Davenport has all the potential in the world but hasn't panned out as a consistent presence.

Beyond that, :ehh:

If you hit, you're the Texans tho. They have four more years of control on Stroud at less than 40 mill total. Cray

It’s not agent games. He really might be him. This is my JJ McCarthy post

1- You really have to think about who his coach was. Harbaugh, the same guy who just dropped Keenan, Mike Williams, and passed on 2 WR1s to instead get a tackle. So McCarthy not passing is not an indicator of his lack of talent, it’s Harbaugh being Harbaugh

2- It’s very easy to look at a player and pidgeon hole him into what we think. Most people are probably walking around thinking JJ = Alex smith. In actuality, McCarthy had the same throw velocity as Joe Milton. Yea, that Joe Milton that people think may have the strongest arm in the league from day 1. Milton 62mph, McCarthy 61mph. QBs rarely throw above 60. Milton tied for fastest ever with ….Josh Allen.

Favre (rumored)- 63mph
Milton, Josh Allen- 62mph
JJ McCarthy- 61
Mahomes, Anthony Richardson-60
Stroud-58
Cam Newton, Andy Dalton, Jimmy Garoppolo, Marcus Mariota-56
Joe Flacco, Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston- 55

So, he is not some noodle arm game manager. You marry high end arm talent matched with intangibles and ‘winning’ qualities? It’s not BS McCarthy could be sick
