Side note, the 90s was now 3 decades ago. Gotdamn...

LL is a GOAT and I've gotten into him more in the last two years, I won't claim to be an expert on his catalog, but dude doesn't get enough shine in GOAT talks. Let's show the good brother James some love:

While we at it, people talk about Hov's run (and to be clear, I think Hov is the absolute GOAT and will defend that opinion with anything), Nas, Drake now, Em's, Pac's, etc, but why doesn't anybody mention LL, circa 1985-1995?

He was clearly a Top 5 guy in that frame, and probably at some point coulda debated as the best rapper in the world. I can't claim to know what year he was better than everyone, but clearly he had a decade of prolific output and popularity that should be talked about more!

People who grew up on LL are typically 50yrs old. They arent gonna be too many on the Coli. So to say no one mentions him is a stretch. You have the hip historians on here that really push for him tho. He will always be on my Mt Rushmore.

LL, cube, and krs were the original goats imho.

What made their late 80s to 90s runs impressive was that they all had to change their styles to adapt to the rapid change in the soundscape during those periods

Also I always preferred the original version of the song below. It didn't need any guests at all

I saw LL perform years ago back when Headsprung was out for free at the African American Festival here in Baltimore. Easily one of the top 3 shows I been to. And yes it was free. I’m 38 so I’m old enough to remember when he was that dude, when he fell off, and when he made his comeback. Easily one of the goats. In fact he came up with the term. So underrated and the first to truly make a career of this shyt. He’s the prototype for all other rappers after him in that he was respected by the nikkas, loved by the ladies, and was able to crossover into Hollywood all while still making dope music
