I can respect L for keeping it a buck and admitting he was on some a$$hole shyt at the time. I remember being a kid thinking "Wait...aint that a compliment? Whats the problem L? :dwillhuh: "

Exactly, when the battle went down LL, Meth and Red alluded to what caused it and I thought is that it?! I really thought it was deeper than that

If Canibus studio albums were good, it wouldn't have mattered.

Most heard 90% of Can-I-Bus before it even dropped.

C-Quel was an improvement but nothing special.

Dude was a beast on the mic, but making albums is a whole nother thing.

Yep, I really thought Canibus had next, I remember being so hyped when the first album dropped and listening to it in HMV (:flabbynsick: ) man, I can still feel the disappointment

FACTS!

Premier said that Canibus doesn't like that he tells that story. He said D'Angelo called him right after Canibus left, and he played the beat for D'Angelo in the studio and he went crazy for it, lol.

Dude came into Def Jam for a meeting, and the label was gearing up for Def Jam 2000, which was basically like a revamp for the label focused on street records and albums. So every artist, from Onyx, LL, Jay, X, Ja, Slick Rick, etc, were all getting these massive budgets and promo campaigns to fuel their projects. Everyone would end up going gold or multi-platinum. Def Jam thought Canibus would fit with the roster, so he was offered a crazy deal that would allow him to pick any producers he wanted, have a crazy marketing campaign, street team, whatever features, etc. Dude turned down the deal and said he would rather sign a deal that would allow him to "build Hip Hop from the ground up" at a major. So he signed directly with UMG, who didn't even have a Hip Hop department or team, and they didn't know what to do with him or how to even promote his music for two albums. So he flopped TWICE. Back to back projects, and ended up getting dropped right after.

Dude was one of those people you couldn't tell anything to. Who thought he knew everything.
I always assumed he didn't sign with def jam because of the LL situation...

He was on "4,3,2,1" because Violator wanted to manage him and LL was there and told them he would give him a shot. They were going to have the same management. Violator wanted people outside of just the mixtape crowd to know who he was, so LL was trying to help expose him to more listeners. But when he started talking about "borrowing the mic tattoo" and all that weird sh*t, L felt a certain way and that's when the whole thing kicked off.

Canibus didn't start hitting the magazines until the next year. LL was helping him in '97. That's when the album was done. It was '98 when 'Bis started doing his MTV rounds and publications and all that sh*t.

Didn’t Bis change his verse at LL’s request? That should have been the end of it
