Lockdown-Ignoring Sweden Now Has Europe's Highest Per-Capita Death Rate

Sweden's death rate per million (376) "is far in advance of Norway's (44), Denmark's (96) and Finland's (55) — countries with similar welfare systems and demographics, but which imposed strict lockdowns..." reports the Guardian, "raising concerns that the country's light-touch approach to the coronavirus may not be helping it build up broad immunity."

"According to the scientific online publication Ourworldindata.com, Covid-19 deaths in Sweden were the highest in Europe per capita in a rolling seven-day average between 12 and 19 May. The country's 6.25 deaths per million inhabitants a day was just above the UK's 5.75."

@grazazaza you hate to see it
The state epidemiologist is still downplaying it by saying that Sweden is ahead of the rest of the world in death rates and that the world and our Scandinavian neighbors will catch up when the second wave hits. They just won't admit they've been wrong since the beginning :francis:
Exactly why we shouldn't abdicate so much to the federal govt. when states have proven much more capable:ehh:

Privatization also succumbs to poor leadership, but without public oversight

The irony is that both State and Private actors failed in the case of Sweden. The majority of the elderly deaths which represent almost half of the total deaths, took place in elederly homes in the Stockholm area. Mind you majority of the elderly homes in the Stockholm area are privatized. And then the failed "no lockdown" policy that our Swedish goverment implemented. All in all us Swedes hold a Big L due to incompetence but also an already overloaded elderly care and healthcare system

Countries that are re-opening in Europe have specifically said that Swedish citizens are not allowed to enter due to our high death rate

i don't mind that sweden did this because someone had to do it. if everyone followed the same playbook you just know the right wing conspiracy types would have been arguing about how this option would have been so much more effective than the economy ruining lockdown. even if facts eventually prove this to be completely false they'll still cling to it.
