Logic has admitted to “half-assing” the last songs he needed put out to get out of his deal with Def Jam Recordings.

On a skit from his new joint album with Juicy J, Live and in Color, Logic sits down with the Three 6 Mafia legend to have a reflective and honest discussion about being good friends, producing and putting their all into their music.

"I don’t half-ass anything," claimed Logic towards the end of the "Discussion 4" skit. "The only time I ever half-assed some shyt was when I was trying to get out of my Def Jam deal. I was like, take these songs and get the fukk out of here."

Logic has been openly critical of Def Jam in the past. In 2022, he called out the record label because he thought they messed up his release plans.

"Def Jam, why you fukking up my releases, man?" he said in a video. “First of all, I love you Tunji. Tunji’s my guy, he ain’t got nothing to do with this. What the fukk is going on, man? I told Def Jam that I wanted to release my shyt as a two-pack and I just found out that they’re releasing it as two singles at the same time. What kind of shyt is that?"

That same year, he released his last album with Def Jam, Vinyl Days, which he created in 12 days. In an appearance on the Impaulsive podcast, Logic confirmed its speedy creation was because he wanted to leave the record label.

"I made that album in 12 days so I could get off Def Jam," he said. "That’s my favorite part – I’m off Def Jam. I made that album so I could leave, and guess what? I left them with some of the dopest shyt I could give them.

I wouldn’t know a Logic song if I heard it :russ:
yep. haha. But I think I do know one. the joint he did with the entire wutang. That's it. I keep saying this over and over.. There is decades worth of material for up and coming artists to read, but these mfers are still signing fukked up deals. If anyone signs a bad deal in today's era of music, they deserve to get jerked and should be put in jail for arguing against a bad contract they signed.

The fukk does he mean by two-pack? :birdman:

A single track with two songs that play back to back?? Two songs on one single EP/CD, like what was common back in the day??

Does even Def Jam know wtf he was talking about?? :why: bytch.
Does he mean a single with a b-side? Is he talking about 2Pac and his white side kicked in and fukked off the pronunciation? Why is there video of him crying and holding a childs doll???? I need answers Sway!!!!

Not alot of rappers who can rap and still be trash he's one of a kind
This is a keenly astute nuanced observation

Came in here to say this

So what's the excuse for the rest of his catalog?

… but I am admittedly projecting my own insecurities here. Basically once you get in the habit of signing off on a standard that becomes like neurologically wired in you as an acceptable standard to sign off on.

Rather than an energy that is meant to lock in, the process of locking into great inspiration that brings greatness to life, not meticulously piecing together fragments of what we were once inspirations

If you have the energy needed to lock in and then you adulterate that with the psychological cop out of a lower standard, I’m gonna go on a record and say it’s gonna be difficult for you to achieve that high standard again unless you are particularly inspired and motivated about what you are working on ahead and perhaps that may be some concepts that you had put on a pedestal to not release under your current contract

Basically, this man’s lane is to be Eminem’s Recovery album personified while projecting the image of Eliot from iRobot

:russ: I've heard one track featuring Eminem. Yeah Em is his idol and the track wasn't for me.

Is this only in relation to Logic/Music?

I'm telling on my lack of understanding here lol, I think the illustrated example of what I highlighted is like a 'Sophomore slum' type of thing you mean?

I don't believe this tbh. He just not like that.

I was going to post the same comment. I do not believe you are going to voluntarily weaken your brand/music by being petulant knowing this day and age they will cancel you and move on to the next act mad quick!
