Its hard to go back and listen to "We Got it From Here.." with the backdrop of what went on behind the scenes:

  • Q Tip being a power trip perfectionist
  • Phife not taking his Type 1 seriously before it was too late
  • Non stop fights, drama, and egos
Just the fact that the album was made without the reality that Phife was damn near close to death. Just for Tip to be like:

“I had no idea that his days was numbered. I just want to celebrate him, you know?”

Just for him to move on and focus on self, which I get it, you are a producer and an artist first, but holy hell this Doc made Q Tip look like a complete ego driven dikkhead. The only likeable dude out of the whole group was Jarobi :why:

It sucks that such a group, for the time, had so many issues behind closed doors by lack of understanding of self and trying to put the bullshyt aside. Hence, why the "Native Tongue" movement sadly got chopped down due to nonsense, ego, and the changing of the times.

I just played We Got It From Here for the first time in years a few weeks ago and the album still sounds great. Personally, the group ended on a sad note but musically they went out with a bang with that album.

Jarobi showing that he’s a dope rapper was an incredible revelation.

When dude came out on that opening track like a surprise entrance at the Royal Rumble :banderas: . shyt was majestic as all hell. Still get goosebumps from that track and the album, but just the backstory of the group and the nonsense leading to Phife's demise, it just messes me up that they broke up in the first place.
