Looking back, all of Wu messed up not sticking to the script and letting RZA continue to produce their solo albums

That’s not fair.

A) You could argue that’s what threw them in the first place, with the basement flood delaying the first wave.

B) That’s a lot of work for just one producer. I say this as someone who makes beats myself.
Producing an album is not just making a lot of beats, it’s making the right ones that fit your artist.

B2) And Wu had/has Tru Master, 4th Disciple, Math also…it’s not like they sucked. Even Deck made beats.

B3)…besides, if you’re a producer who is also an artist you often save your hottest chit for yourself.

C) (The part nobody wants to say out loud) Things worked out how they usually do - you gotta be around to be down.
RZA said he “never left the basement“. Purple Tape happened when it did because Rae was hungrier than most and
came to the basement when he was ready and took whatever he could talk RZA out of. There are reasons RZA, Rae,
Ghost, and Cappadonna had 2 albums by the Deck and Goldie dropped their first and Masta Killa hadn’t come out.

This is the same convo as Pac/Dre and CL/Pete basically.

Rza didn't get the memo on that...

Negative. This is what RZA eventually became

Very stale and out of touch. I actually think the exact opposite of OP. They should have branched out sooner and used other producers and they would have had way better longevity, around 2003 is when they should have dropped RZA. Could have used

- Just Blaze
- Kanye (who was already a huge Wu-Tang fan and had similar style of beats in the early days)
- Havoc

They could have used these producers to executive produce entire albums who would be able to still keep that Wu-Tang sound but make it more modern/updated

That video is from 2010’s or whenever lol

If RZA wouldn’t have been giving beats to a lot of Wu affiliates in the 90’s, those beats could’ve been for the solo albums

Ye was a cheap as imitation of RZA at the begging of his career. Just Blaze was an ok producer but nah man, his beats would not have worked for Wu.

Them beats on the Ghost Dog soundtrack could’ve been for one of their albums

Also, if not RZA beats, just keep that shyt Wu and let nikkas like his protégés like 4th and True Master produce a good bulk of the solo albums with RZA that way RZA doesn’t burnout because it is a lot of work

I laughed, but here’s where I go back a point I made in that post before that: beats that fit the artist.

A beat like “Holocaust/Silkworm” is probably not the first one anybody in The Clan wants for their solo.
MCs usually are just “put the next beat on” and they either like it or they don’t.

But as a producer who is an artist himself, RZA thinks “this fits my rapping style”…and he can add a couple guests and have a broad sing the chorus and make that his lead single.

This is why personally I am always interested in artists who make their own beats because they are the only ones who knew what kinda vibe they were feeling when they made it. Conversely, this is how come we hear the stories about how Certain Rapper had a hit from Certain Producer and the rapper says the producer didn’t like the beat. Everybody doesn’t experience the beat the same way.

If you're 20-25 years old and your boss has been taking 50% of what you earn from the moment you start earning cheques, then the govt taking 50% of what's left, then 15% of that to your manager, would you want to try and get bread another way?

Hindsight is a motherfukker, but not many young men with a young family are going to maintain a working relationship with someone who is taking half your dough before it even touches your hands.

Why you think so many of them sued him? Including Ghost, even after he had taken him back for Supreme Clientele?

I get that and that’s always a dicey game when you factor in the business aspect of it

The art gets sacrificed for the business when the money ain’t to one’s liking

But to RZA’s credit, is he a producer and writer his percentage of points and money was always going to be different back then

Or at least that’s how I see it

I’m not a business man though lol

Also

U God should’ve never been doing his own hooks

Turbo Charge :mjlol:

That nikka should’ve been throwing darts with Deck and Masta Killa on a record along GZA with a Meth hook

It’s strength in numbers and without his brothers he ain’t have that same energy to help with his weaknesses (wack hooks being one)

Asking a producer to produce.
after they lose their past work in that manner is a rough deal.
Said producer can not review their old work.
It is just a hard bargain.

I disagree, respectfully

1) RZA lost a lot of his beats in a flood

2) The 2nd Wu Album (+28 years ago) was the start of his ending.

The real misstep was INS not being able to put out a record before the 2nd Wu joint.

There’d be no 50% to give or gain without RZA.

And RZA wasn’t just the boss. He created the entire movement from the name, production, writing, the initial deal with Loud, the strategy to sign certain members to certain labels. RZA literally masterminded the entire thing. He EARNED that 50% cooking up beats in his basement for years while the other members were living life, smashing women, smoking dust, etc.
