Like most blu fans, I was very disappointed by "Noyork" when I first heard it. It sounded nothing like the classic "below the heavens" (except for few songs in the 2nd half). It was too out there.
When I revisited this album the other day, I kinda understood what sound Blu was going for, and respect his attempt to push the boundaries of the genre. It's not perfect by any means, but very interesting and original album. Hiphop has changed since "NoYork" came out in 2010. Thanks to Kanye, Kendrick, Childish Gambino and few others, the mainstream became more opened to experimental records. I think the reception for the album would've been different if it came out this year
Blu clearly doesn't give a fukk, which is the best and, at the same time, the worst thing about him
