my advice is go to a store and try out different types of guitars.

I have a Les Paul knockoff that just "felt right", I would recommend going to a pawn shop or a used instrument spot and just play different ones and see which one suits you. I will tell you that of course... the higher end guitars will play and sound better.

actually, its harder to learn on a acoustic, plus you will get blisters on them

how much money are you willing to spend?

Go to guitar center and get a basic acoustic. Depending on ur goal I'd start acoustic. I started electric but you master acoustic first and electric is easier bc the strings are lighter. Plus you will need an amp for an electric guitar. Maybe even start with a nylon string classical.

shyt is rough tho breh. I been playing guitar for 4 years longer than piano and I'm light years better on piano.

really that hard? hmmmm

tabs seem to make it easier to learn

i guess it makes sense to start acoustic since it costs more to get a electric guitar. thanks for the info i'll get a cheap on at costco or something

Nah, breh. Dont get one at a regular store like that. Just go to Guitar Center(if they have one where u live) and you can fidn a nice acoustic for well under $200. Play around with the ones in there so you can get comfortable with one and find a good sound. But one thing with guitars is, you WILL get what you pay for. You get a cheap one....and it's gonna be cheap. Might be harder to the play, the neck might be raised too high or set too low, you might have trouble with the build quality.

I'd suggest a Yamaha. Great all around sound. I have 3 acoustic guitars and 2 are Yamaha.

But hey all this is just advice....it's just advice...that's all it is. At the end of the day...

Just go out and see what you like breh, try out a bunch of different ones. Get something that isn't a piece of shyt for your first guitar but not something overly expensive. I've been playing the ukulele for a few months now and haven't looked back :win:

Good advice.....lets just say I've had an acoustic guitar for several years...and still not that great. :sadbron:..... I played the violin for 9 years, thats helps, so I can read music in treble even with the extra two strings.

If I hear a melody from a song, whatever genre, I can follow along and imitate it pretty good. Thats fun, just bullshytting around. I just wished I had learned how to actually play guitar earlier in life, and kept up with my piano lessons... :snoop: damn....

SOOO.......what do yall suggests for actually learning as a novice.....I've never done the tabs things, is that better than learning actual notes??

from what ive seen from tabs its way easier then trying to read notes

thats what gives me hope of learning the guitar

from the responses on here its gonna be hard to learn the guitar

maybe i should just get a cheap acoustic and see how it goes from there

You can use tabs, but learn ur chords FIRST, and try to learn scales. That's the most important part. Personally, I taught myself by looking up songs I like on the internet. Songs by The Eagles and other great bands that pretty used basic chordds.

Again dont buy anything too cheap. You'll only be making urself work backwards.

Tabs are okay if you're just learning how to actually play but if you limit yourself to them you will never get anywhere with the instrument and shoot yourself in the foot. Learn chords as soon as possible and then move onto understanding sheet music.
