Looks Like Joaquin Phoenix Didn’t Produce King Push ...

Despite what Pusha T himself told Vibe earlier this summer, Joaquin Phoenix did not actually produce a track on Pusha T’s new album My Name Is My Name. The song, “King Push,” opens the album, and was reportedly produced by Phoenix and Kanye West. Not the case, according to a statement Phoenix gave to XXL.

“While it was widely reported that Pusha T used my beat and that I produced his song, I can’t take any credit,” he said. ”A friend’s son played me his music, and all I did was make an introduction to Kanye’s camp.”

In August, Pusha told Vibe that he submitted the album to label boss Kanye West this June, who then slid a few additional beats his way. “One of those beats was from Joaquin Phoenix, and it’s probably gonna be…I want it to be the intro to my album,” he said at the time.

So to clarify, apparently something had been mistaken along the way, and Phoenix’s role was to introduce his friend’s son’s music to Kanye West and his people, who then in turn passed it along to Push. My Name Is My Name is set to drop officially on October 8.
