With a debut album on Def Jam and while making headlines for his outlandish commentary, Lord Jamar seemed to miss out on the buzz surrounding freshman rapper Vince Staples. The Brand Nubian rapper tells DJ Vlad that he isn't aware of the budding Long Beach native or his statement that the 90s are overrated because they didn't have a Kanye. After getting a good laugh, Lord Jamar blamed people for making sales more important than quality or impact of culture within the genre. "Trying to put a critique and a standard on Hip-Hop that is more Euro-based than it is Afro-based." He explained, "All these idiots are the first ones to always talk about how much they sold, and all of this dumb s***, as if all of that matters when it comes to the quality of Hip-Hop."

If he means that commcials hiphop contained a lot of bs as well, I'm with him. That often gets left out while discussing the 90s. But the amount of dope music that dropped is nearly underrated.

This whole argument is silly, everybody identifies the era that they came of age in as the greatest era, be it music, sports, just the times in general. They're both right and they're both wrong, Lord Jamar named a lot people from the 90s that were great, some of them were just aiight. Vince Staples , if he named this millenium's rappers, it'd be the same deal. It's all subjective, it's "art", i use that word very loosely but still, it is, ain't no objectivity in something POV based

Not true. 90s babies ARE THE Only Generation in general not paying homage.
Rappers in the mid to late 90s were Not going around sayind the 80s rappers were overated/wack/ too old etc.
This generation is the reason KRS One can't make money doing shows in the US.

We have Never seen this before and it is kinda sad.
