Cool. See that you're a part of the last Coli class. A small, but vocal % of '22 got booted for coming in here shucking and jiving. They overshadowed the other regular members.
As a guy on the opposite end of shucking and jiving, to what do you attribute how/why so many adults publicly embrace ignorance.
Shamelessly saying things that make them look like complete fools.
I've told this story a couple of times but I've been a lurker of TheColi since about 2015 when my co-worker put me on to the site. When I tried to make an account all those years ago, my account didn't get approved, so I tried again, but by that time they had closed registration. This was my third attempt to create an account here.
My point is, I'm well aware of how one should conduct themselves on this site, after spending years lurking and reading what y'all would say, so that's why I wasn't purged with the other "22" members (although Chicago did attempt to bait me into getting banned when I first got here).
To answer your question, I think ignorance is comfortable. It's difficult to embrace something completely different to what you've been told or taught to believe, a perfect example being religion. A lot of us Black folk have been indoctrinated with certain beliefs, myself included-- I was a hardcore baptist for over 19 years, and my family still is. We went to church every Sunday, and my mom, as broke as we were, paid tithes every fukking week, while we on food stamps and wic.
I broke free of this once I got to college. For years I had questions about my religion that my family, deacons and Noel Jones (my pastor) couldn't actually answer. Mind you, I was a very intelligent child, being in the Magnet Program here in LA my entire life. So questions just came naturally to me.
When these people couldn't answer me, I sought answers elsewhere: science, books, philosophy.
In other words, I was comfortable being uncomfortable.
So at least for us Black folk, it has a lot to do with religion. People don't think of themselves as ignorant, because they don't know what they don't know. They assume they are correct and that anything to the contrary is either wrong or even evil. This is why you have so many people claiming science is "the work of the devil" or some other dumb shyt, unaware they literally benefit from scientific discovery every single day.
Jamar, being a 5%er, is a belligerent ignorant, a person that thinks they know more than they do, and will get angry or even violent when you tell them they don't know what they're talking about, which is why he threatened Dave for bringing the same energy he always brings.
Jamar would NEVER get away with talking to me like that cause I'll go meet that nikka
