To suggest its sexism and not roughly sixty years of democratic policy that has ultimately been the undoing of black America that black men are not voting for a black female democratic candidate now is nonsense. This piece clearly has an agenda given post-CRM history; having read about the reason for certain plays during the mid 60s and early 70s, I wouldn't vote democrat either after seeing the effects of doing so this long. It hasn't yielded any positive long-term results that have strengthened the black community to act in ways other groups do. Doesn't mean all of a sudden vote republican, but what do you do when you realize you've always been between a rock and a hard place?

It's been a day late and a dollar short, and that was by design.
Spoken/typed with intelligence and scholarship, friend.

A man quoted in the column expressed a similar sentiment.

====

Some were like Willie, who told me he used to vote regularly, but stopped because he doesn’t believe a politician — any politician — can solve his problems.

“You can work and your wife can or your child can work. The dogs can work. The rats and the roaches even working, and you still cannot afford to stay in a studio apartment in South Los Angeles,” he told me, taking a break from selling used DVDs and books out of his minivan.

He continued, his voice rising: “And when was the last time you heard a politician say Black man? When they think of the Black community, think of Black women or Black children, they don’t really think of us.”

Willie ran through a list of government assistance programs, from tax credits to food benefits for infants, arguing that they primarily benefit women. Meanwhile, single Black men are disproportionately homeless and politicians “don’t care.” This is why, he speculated, that Black men vote differently than Black women.

“But that’s OK,” he spat, shaking his head in resigned anger.

The anger is real. Just look at the neighborhood pnb rock was killed in. The homes go for the high 500k and studio start at 1900.Older black men don't have a problem with adding more police if a significant number of them are black. Black La is fed up with the Homeless situation just as much anybody else.Most of the homeless aren't even from Cali, they come from the Greyhound in dtla from out of town and set up shop in areas. Article was decent. She comes off out of touch sometimes. Problems are bigger then city issues. It's needs state and federal intervention.

Her whole “Ice Cube effect” theory is based on a lie, friend.

She mocks Black men throughout the article and admits she only cares about Bass winning not what Black men think and want.

We literally watched an agenda fizzle in real time. For months it's been nonstop FUD about black men voting patterns, with little to no evidence to back it up. Anyone with a lick of political sense should be able to tell you that a poll showing black people giving a republican more than 20% of support is probably wrong. And of course, last week we learned that 84% of black men voted for democrats. Black women were around 94% or so. Meanwhile in multiple states, the majority of white women voted for republican candidates. Yet you never see articles about that in Vox, NYT, WaPo, etc. Funny how that works.

Black men are the most progressive and liberal men in this country. Black men vote for female candidates more than any other men in this country. Black women generally support women's rights more than any men in this country. Yet it's never reported that way, or spun that way. Instead we are forced to answer for hypotheticals that never occur, and ghosts that never appear.
