New bill would split Washington into two states; creating 51st state called Liberty

OLYMPIA -- Two lawmakers in Olympia have introduced a new bill that would create the 51st state by splitting Washington into two separate states along the the Cascade Mountains.

House Bill 1239 would create this new state called Liberty. The borders of the 51st state would follow the crest of the Cascade mountains and the western borders of Okanogan, Chelan, Kittitas, Yakima, and Klickitat counties. The eastern, northern, and southern borders of Liberty are the existing state borders.

The new bill is sponsored by Rep. Rob Chase, and Rep. Bob McCaslin. Both congressmen are from the Spokane area.

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

If the Congress approves a measure to create a new state, the measure would be presented to the President of the United States for approval or veto. In the event of a veto, the measure may be approved over the President’s objections with a two-thirds vote of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. For example, President Andrew Johnson vetoed S. 456, the Nebraska state admission act, in January 1867, but the veto was overridden, resulting in Nebraska’s admission to the union.

If they want new states let's start with DC and PR since you can't split apart existing states. After PR and DC we can start looking at other territories

I must say, we really need to push for PUERTO RICO statehood (even though its more conservative) vs DC statehood.

I really don't think people understand the potential backfire of a republican presidency if the FEDERALLY NEUTRAL TERRITORY OF Washington DC is under republican control

No, the Republicans are constantly trying to split off a conservative chunk of Cali. For at least 30 years there's been a campaign to create a new state called "Jefferson" out of northern rural cali and southern rural oregon.

Honestly California probably should split, but not the way they want. It's just too big....
