Above the fray.
No. Tyrese is still dropping songs(like "Shame") that get major RADIO airplay.

There's PLENTY of R&B acts from the 90s hanging on to indie releases and albums that drop with little to no fanfare.

Tyrese is not in that category.

He gets airplay and such because he's still visible as a tv and film star. Those unseen acts you mentioned are probably making music that's better than his but they aren't attached to one of the biggest film franchises ever. They are doing traveling gospel plays on the chitlin circuit. Doesn't make his music better than theirs.

Bilal shytS on Tyrese.

NO DOUBT HE IS TALENTED. I ALSO AGREE THAT HE IS PROBABLY TOP 5 MALE R&B SINGER OF OUR GENERATION. TOP 10 OVERALL FOR SURE.

THAT BEING SAID, HE HAS A LANE AN DOESN'T VENTURE FAR FROM IT. I CAN'T REMEMBER ANY UPBEAT TYRESE SONGS AND CAN'T REMEMBER HIM DOING ANY SONGS NOT ABOUT "OOH BABY I LOVE YOU".

Yeah but that ain't a bad thing tho :yeshrug:

Him, Maxwell and Joe and maybe D'Angelo are old style R&B crooners...the last of a dying breed.

There needs to be more of them :usure:

I don't think the older black female community, which is most of Tyrese's target audience, cares about Transformers and Fast & Furious.

I get the point you're trying to make though, and I agree. I didnt say he was better than Joe(who is still dropping heat on a smaller level) or other singers of that era.

I just said he's one of the best R&B singers, and it's often overlooked b/c most ppl view him as a movie guy.

He doesn't have a voice to do a ton of uptempos. Dudes with that raspy voice don't have that.

Jodeci(K-Ci) only had one succesful mid-up tempo.

Sisqo is of that same raspy voice, and even he shined more on the slower stuff than the few up tempo hits he had. His voice on Thong Song wasn't memorable until it got to the end.

Tyrese has had a couple...."I Like Them Girls" was a hit. The song he did with Da Brat was good too

Nah, he's talented, but his discography ain't strong enough. For instance, he has the weakest discography outta TGT

Man, I don't know....but that's a good argument.

To me, Tank has the strongest discography BY FAR. Then it has to be Tyrese....b/c IMO, Ginuwine was done after his 2nd album. But those 2 albums yielded classic singles obviously. Some of those songs will always be playable.

He dropped a 3rd album with songs like "Differences" "In Them Jeans" etc, but he wasn't the same without Timbaland FOR MY EARS. I know everyone likes different things though

I would argue that Tyrese was the least talented in TGT(although they're all hella talented)

I might even put Seal above him

R&B has been such an unappreciated lost art that is only still managed to someone still be around main stream wise just a little bit by Weeknd, Frank Ocean, and Miguel.

And its not the fact that I care about r&b being main stream or not. Its just the fact there feels like there are 100000000 rappers compared to 100 rnb singers so its not just a large selection of rnb albums coming out which sucks if its your favorite genre.

I remember growing up listening to random artists like Jahiem, Avant, and mixed in with mega rnb stars like R kelly at my momma house or in the car. Todays parents "parents basically all in their early 20s" don't even listen to rnb like that and the kids growing up listening to OG Herbo all wanna be rapper now ...

I guess my long rant comes back to Tyrese because the fact that the pure version of R&B is basically the forgotten art now. People relate Ty to his movie success and totally erase his music talents which basically backs up op.

but in the end tyrese crazy and need help.

Nah, I don't see how you can put Tyrese in a top 5 unless you're just trying to have a conversation and bring awareness to the fact that he's still a great R&B artist.
