When I first heard this line on fif's track I was still in my teens and didn't really get its significance and wisdom until the years passed, and I watched nikkas I thought I know switch up on me. Do most of y'all live by this principle?

:mjlol: It's "Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer". Who the fukk loves their enemy? That's counter-productive! And hating your friends is only gonna turn them into your enemies...so then you're gonna have to start loving them?

No that sounds stupid. Like the majority of those sayings.

I have been taught this teaching "don't hate anything too much for you do not know if it may become something you care for and don't love anything too much, for you do not know if it may become something you dislike"

Basically don't let yourself get carried away with emotions whether perceived to be positive or negative

Yep.
That's a much better saying because, like you said, it recognizes the dangers of being too emotionally involved.

While I generally agree with not getting emotionally attached to things, you are taking the fif line a little too literally. He didn't mean love your enemies as in being affectionate towards them while shunning your friends, his point was that with your enemies you can always be certain of their position towards you, it is always an antagonistic one, whereas your friends are more unpredictable, because for whatever reason they may one day change and fukk you over some way. Hence "love your enemies and hate your friends, your enemies remain the same and your friends always change."

I don't want to say it in case I misquoted but it's a teaching from Islam
No offense, but for a religion that imposes death sentence on those who renounce it, I find it quite ironic that it would preach how one should be keeping their emotions in check. :mjlol:
