To me that was just warmup to let folks know how easy it is for him to come up with his rhymes...
To be honest, if that MCGH/Yeezus project ain't up to par and the new album ain't F&L 1/ The Cool level, I'm officially retiring from being a Lupe stan. I'll always think highly of his abilities and bump his music, but honestly...fukk that.
Kendrick not only dropped the best album last year(thought F&L II and LIG were both better at first, but I was wrong) that's deservedly being hailed as an instant classic, but he also dropped a song basically calling out all of his peers and bigged up the legends - omitting Lupe's name.
If that shyt doesn't light a fire under your ass and motivate you to go all the way the fukk off, nothing will, and I can't rock with that regardless of my appreciation for his genius.
This is hip hop nikka, and in hip hop, nikkas compete. I think a lot of the time, Lupe can be arrogant about his immense talent and sees himself as above 99% of the emcees out there. While that might be true, you still have to get in the booth and prove the shyt time and time again, or what happens is you get lapped up. nikkas like Kendrick, Wale, J.Cole, Joey Bada$$, Ab-Soul and Big KRIT are too damn good to be underestimated.
With that said, I have little doubt he will do his thing. If this freestyle was done in 2 hours with minimal effort and he still had bars, there's no stopping him if motivated. A motivated Lupe who isn't content with sitting on his talent is the best rapper I've ever heard in my life.
nikka did say "I'll let these nikkas have the summer. The fall is mine." We shall see.
