Gah damn man. I wake up in the morning for work and always have a random bar stuck in my head from one of his mixtapes. This morning it was : You and my main foes fold like clean clothes sub-machine holes the size of Shaq rings in between your eyes like nose :whoo:

I remember stumbling upon him back in 06. I was in the 10th grade when I heard the Fahrenheit 1/15 Trilogy. That shyt changed my life. I went from bumping Wayne, Jeezy and T.I to Lupe like overnight. I had never heard wordplay and skill like that. Instantly became my favorite rapper mc. Moms bought me Food & Liquor for Christmas 06 and it was over.

But yeah man I put his Mixtapes up against anybody except maybe Wayne. Then again, two different styles of rap with those two so I don't really compare em. Its tough for me to find a mixtape trilogy harder than Lupes Fahrenheit.

Question though, was the streets really buzzing for Lupe back then when his mixtapes was dropping? Was there a big anticipation for his debut? Were you older ogs checking for him like that back then?

I always say Lupe pre-Food and Liquor was the perfect rapper

then he only became greater, but to the detriment of the casual rap fan.

I dunno about the streets, cause I was in Mississippi.

But I know the way I even came across/got back into message boards back then was I was seasrching for shyt to bootleg and the three biggest artist threads on any message board on the internet were Lupe, Joe Budden (Mood Muzik 2) and Savage Life by Lil Webbie.

This is wild cause I’m from the sip and I remember going back and forth trying to get folks to listen to MM2 and 3 but Wayne was the man back then.

But as far as Lu goes, I had fam come to the delta from Chicago and they knew of him cause I thought he was the goat because of Failure but it was just on some he can rap he’s dope type shyt. Except of my cousins would alway/ call him Loopey and that he’s not better than Common.

But as far as message boards Lupe was seen as the 1. The things he was doing with switch, twilight, pens and the needles, even rapping over the gorillas beats for the tape was not the norm but so far EVERYONE rocked with him. Dude had gun bars, drug bars, when he mimicked big flow it was fire, the Muhammad walks, hustler song… he had it all

Nobody from Fahrenheit 1 to The Cool was better than Lu as a complete rapper and lyricist plus he could write hit records.

So it wasn’t really the streets per se but the hip hop blogosphere due to his connects with Kanye and Jay and he could rap his ass off and he was wearing supreme and all the fashion from
Japan a lot dudes are rocking now

Budden? Really :ohhh:
Truth be told, Budden entire reputation to this day rests on MM2. If he hadn’t dropped that mixtape he would have been dead in the water as far as his profile in Hip Hop

We used to run that whole tape on loop playing ball back in the day. Right up there with 50 Cent is the Future

He FLOATED on this track off pt 2

Still my favorite rapper :wow:

This is fukkin crazy. I was vibing with headphones in late nite just now and that LTD love ballad song came on. I was scrolling through my mental rolodex for like 10 mins trying to remember what was my jam back in the day with that sample. I knew I didn't have it on Spotify and I was checking the whosampled for it and I was shook cause I couldn't remember. Then it came to me prolly right around the time you made this post.

Played that shyt back 10x dap + rep for being a man of culture

Mixtape Lupe is timeless. Still gets play to this day. Too good. Aside from Much More listed above (and Failure, everyone's favorite), some of my favs:

Can really just drop in any song. Those mixtapes were fantastic. Some non Fahrenheit stuff:

:blessed: Glad we got this heat outta early, hungry Lu.

When he copied BIGs flow on Ooh I said :wow:

Going thru that trilogy was a fukking experience.

Coming From Where I'm From had a young nikka in my feelings.

Conflict Diamonds... Lupe taught an entire history lesson in a song and had nikkas rocking.

Switch:whoo:

Outty 5000 - Look Look gander gander. It's the young boy from the land of Lambda. The land of Lincoln. The grand theft auto Chicago. Warn all the mics that he hardcore.

From the opening verse, my mans was floating.

I have no idea what my fav joint from his mixtapes is. They're all so fire.
