I need to free up storage on my Mac, and have a lot of downloaded mp3s/rare shyt that I have kept on there after I have uploaded onto my Apple Music and onto my phone etc

The question I’m asking is .. can I delete all this shyt off my MacBook and the albums/songs still work on my Apple Music when I try to play them?

I’ve kept all the downloaded albums because I thought they wouldn’t work on Apple Music if I deleted them from the Mac .. Google ain’t giving me an answer, could somebody kindly put me right :snoop:

You can buy an external ssd drive/usb stick large enough to hold your collection .

Move your collection to the new drive . Open Apple Music and point the tracks to that drive.

After everything syncs . Everything will play fine from your phone.

If you delete the shyt straight up without moving it….the next time your start Apple Music on your Mac it will remove the permissions from the phone app and the tracks will be greyed out… no more clueminatti desert storm 3

Anytime you add a song it gets added into the cloud library, you can play files without having them on the hard disk

The problem you'll get is the library will update and look for the files again at some point. I don't think there's anything set to when it happens but when it does the songs are pretty random that you won't able to play until you put the files back long enough to have AM read them again. I haven't had whole albums die on me

I do what you're thinking about, add tracks and delete them. Except I've got an external drive to add them again when AM tries to sync them again, can't find them and then grays them out

Yep OP this is the way. Might be worth it to buy a cheap MacBook just for ya music and sync that with AM.

I gotta update my external HD. It’s been a minute. I got all my stuff categorized to a T. Correct album art, featured artists, etc

thanks dude, that makes sense, what I don't understand, is that I just deleted several albums from this Mac, emptied the bin, and I can still play them on Apple Music on this Mac, and also they still playing from my phone. Am I buggin or is this normal? :flabbynsick:

so the best thing I can do like @Kaydigi says is upload all my shyt to an external drive for when this update thing happens, I'm on it now man thanks .. this is what I get for buying a bullshyt tiny hard drive Mac a few years ago :camby:

@Motife43 and same with me man, all my music/album art is in pristine fukking order, its gonna break my heart if all this turns grey when I try to play it .. think ill need to get a new Mac and keep this for music/jbo purposes @Rekkapryde :sas2:
