Why do people use any drive that a 4th down failed and bytch that the team could be driving to tie while completely ignoring the drives where they went for it on 4th down and got 7 instead of 3. Overall going for it on 4th is a net positive in this game.

Your pass defense is struggling, you lost your best WR, your top TE is on IR, your star RB is getting bottled up. You probably won’t get tons of opportunities to score, if you have a chance to cut it to a 1 score game late with time on the clock that’s a huge momentum shift.

The benefit of converting that 4th down doesn’t outweigh the negative of keeping this a multi score game this late. Dan Campbell does not adapt his coaching to his current situation. He coaches in the 4th the same way he does in the 1st. That’s a problem

Especially based on the game script and tempo of the offense made sense for the coach to go for it
