True, MCHG was average...

I still listen to it sometimes, but it definitely wasn't what people made it out to be when it first dropped. Jay-Z is the type to make something wack, then you write him off, and then he drops something dope again and you fool yourself into thinking he still has it in him. I want to hear one more album from him and then he should retire for good.

Yeah, it's not the worst album ever. But lyrically I was very disappointed with Jay, some good beats though. But huge lack of content and lyricist, was very disappointed. I thought BP3 was a lot better. Oh no, I 100 percent believe Jay got it in him to make dope shyt, don't want him to retire, I just feel he did that shyt on the fly to take advantage of that deal and to go platinum again to add to his resume.

And that's what it felt like, a marketing scheme instead of heartfelt shyt. Would have been better as a mixtape.

I don't know man, everybody loses it at one point or another. If you listen to how Jay was spittin even two years ago on Watch The Throne and compare it to Magna Carta, you can see a steep decline. Jay really doesn't haven't anything left to say IMO and before he tarnishes his legacy anymore, I think he should hang it up.

Inconsistent beats and inconsistent rhymes is more like it.

The equivalent of watching a Transformers movie. Just one of those big budget blockbusters thats fun, and that's it.

Album has flaws from top to bottom.

It's a dope album. Far from wack, but a good Jay album is a wack in the ears of people who:

1) Saw that commercial with Rubin, Pharrell, Timbo, and Swizz and were hyped for a Black Album Pt. 2 or something close to it.

2) Wanted Jay to compete w/ Kanye and drop an experimental album like Yeezus

So when Jay dropped a typical Jay album, he caught flack for basically making a Jay album. Funny thing is that critics that gave it 3/5, 5/10, or something around that ball park, even stated that it was good (some even said enjoyable). They went in on the album because they compared it to an album like Yeezus and ended up disappointed because it was a typical Jay album.

I think he can do it. He had some bars on Watch The Throne, and BP3. I think he rushed MCHG. It's true he did sound uninspired on that album, but he has all the potential in the world to do huge historic things, it would be a great shame for him to waste that. Imagine if he released a classic HIP HOP album, like an amazing album that was real Hip Hop shyt, that would be incredible. Any true artist that runs out of shi to say possibly ain't a true artist, cause there's limitless shyt, KRS still droppin relevant records today about all types of topics. Jay surely with all his experiences has a lot of stories and shyt to tell, or even be creative on a storytelling tip, he's capable in my opinion, it's whether he does it or not. Look at Nas, he's been in the game longer and most people really liked Life Is Good.

I'm one of the ones here who hasn't liked many Timbalands beats this year.

Beats like Tom Ford, Holy Grail and Crown are one side of the album when he's trying those new sounds and it doesn't work for him. Then there's the Beyonce track and Oceans, where the beats sound like they're from the 2000's,, and nostalgia doesn't kick in, it just sounds outdated. Beats like the bo1da track and Somewhere in America are the ones that work though, one is a 'newish' sound but it's fresh and the latter is more of an older type beat, but it's mixes in perfectly. He tried to find balance in the album, but Timbo and Hov don't have it in them anymore.
