What are you guys thoughts on this?

In ATL we have GA State. GA State is a Research University, and is like 45 or 46% Black. GA State has more black students than the entire Atlanta University Center Combined. GA State is a State School so it is much cheaper than the AUC and students have access to more resources.

Many of our HBCUs simply can't compete. I have brought up Consolidation of HBCUs in the past and it is a heated topic as people don't want to lose the history of some HBCUs.

What are you guys thoughts on Black Students taking advantage of these existing institutions? I`m not talking about PWI SEC schools in the country, I`m talking about Universities that are in Major cities.

The sad truth is something has to shake, because it's idiotic to pay 100k for a degree just for "legacy" purposes when you can go to a school with better resources for 1/3-1/4th the price.

I`m not calling for abandoning all HBCUs because schools like FAMU and NC A&T are damn good school and imo some of the best schools out there. I`m more so speaking for these type of situations like what is happening with GA State.

Speaking in Georgia alone, in my mind financially there's almost no reason to go to a HBCU unless you have family history. They are expensive as shyt. And the quality of education you can get at the state schools in Georgia (UGA, State, GA Tech, etc) is at or even higher for much cheaper. I went to State and I loved not only the diversity, but I was around all kinds of black people still. It was a great experience.
