Most Germans support burqa ban: poll
Only 15 percent of Germans opposed restrictions on the full-face veil.

A large majority of Germans are in favor of at least a partial ban on the Islamic veil, a poll has found.

German TV channel ARD asked 1,008 adults about their views on the full-face veil, such as the burqa or niqab. About half said they were in favor of a complete ban, with a further one in three wanting the veils prohibited in schools andfor civil servants, ARD reported.


In the poll, conducted by phone between August 23-24, 15 percent of Germans opposed any restriction on the full-face veil.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière said last week he supported a partial burqa ban.

“We want to introduce a legal requirement to show one’s face in places where it is necessary for our society’s coexistence — at the wheel, at public offices, at the registry office, in schools and universities, in the civil service, in court,” de Maizière had said.

To be fair tourists especially rich tourists are usually given a little extra flexibility with the laws of most places...this is understood world over

True Just lke to point it out, because it's in line with France's (and Europe's) hypocrisy of talking about "values"/respecting the country's laws and ways and whatnot, while letting everything slide when $ is involved. Like we talk about Human rights and democracy but sell weapons to Saudi Arabia, shyt Hollande gave the highest medal (Legion d'Honneur) to one their princes a couple month ago

Eh, This is more out of a security concern for covered faces than dissidents of Islam. Depends on which Germans they interviewed also, 1008 is not a large sample size. Did they poll the equivalent to the inbred backwoods people of the Southern US/mountain people(i.e. those who reside in East Germany, outside of Berlin), than the more sophisticated San Francisco types in southwest Germany. Luckily I lived in near Frankfurt and Mannheim where people were more educated with a lot of Muslims, mainly Turkish though. There is this nice suburb of north Frankfurt, Leimen, where Boris Becker is from, that took in a lot of Syrian refugees. Also that area took in a lot of Iraqi refugees in the early-mid 00s. Aside from a few incidents, which happens during growing pains with different groups, people pretty much were tolerant and got along. Media will have you thinking the world hates each other and are warring like Americans.
