its a long article so I didnt post it, but basic theme to the people they interview is they live in expensive areas (ie westcoast & NE) they went to expensive private schools and/or went to grad schools, and even with 6 figures they were living beyond their means. No symptahy from me

Not terribly surprising.
Though you won't get any pity from the vast majority of the country that struggles to take home even half what they earn.
I didn't watch the video. I'm at work.
But when you consider what is left after a 100k salary with taxes, student loans, car notes, mortgage, wedding expenses, children...they end up being in just as tough a situation as many poorer people. A lot of that is based on choices, though, to be sure.
And yeah, where you live matters.
This monthly train pass just to get to work for me is going to top $300 later this year when the MTA increases prices (despite the NY Comptroller finding that the MTA has a 2 billion dollar surplus a few months ago, but whatever).

See that just goes to show you can't just say someone is rich because they make 6-figures - it depends on where you live and depends on your lifestyle, because living in a normal area with kids can be pretty expensive these days. I have friends making less £50k who drive insanely nice BMW sports cars because they're single & can afford to. And then I know people making £100k+ who are really struggling because they want to live in a decent neighborhood and send their future kids to a good school, family plans etc etc

I also have a lot of friends with crazy monthly student loan bills too, & that's what scares me the most - we are screwing over the up & coming current generations in terms of educational costs. If you don't have rich parents and don't get a scholarship but want to go to a good university, then you can possibly look forward to paying the equivalent of a monthly mortgage for the next 25 years on your student loans. And it's turning a lot of people off to college - I have a number of friends who would absolutely love to go back to school, but can't afford to. And a lot of times they make a decent wage, but that disappears into the regular bills of rent & fuel/food , and yet they don't qualify for assistance because they make too much

Pretty simple - as you make more, you adjust your lifestyle accordingly (or what you think is accordingly).

Spenders are going to be broke (or feel broke) no matter what level they're they operate on.

Savers are going to have money in the bank no matter how much they bring home.

My wife and i are both spenders. So, while our income has increased many times over from our early days (she finished school, got her masters and went to work; I caught a couple breaks here and there) ... we aren't stacking like we thought we might be at this income level.

Bottom line - people don't change who they are she their income grows. If you're bad with money, you're probably going to be bad with more money.
