A Norman man is facing charges after being accused of a strange crime.
Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn has filed felony maiming charges against 23-year-old Darryl Black.
Authorities say Black allegedly bit off the tip of his girlfriend’s pinky finger.
The alleged crime occurred during a fight inside the couple’s Norman apartment.
Police reports show officers responded to the emergency room and said Darryl Black “was not cooperative and lied to officers about what was going on multiple times.”
Finally, investigators got Black to talk.
“It was determined through the investigation that he was the aggressor and obviously, hurt her pretty bad this time,” Mashburn said.
Black’s girlfriend, 21-year-old Thomascita Garcia, is also facing charges for assault and battery for an alleged attack that happened last month.
Authorities say Garcia allegedly attacking Black and a police officer who was called to their apartment.
“Sometimes in relationships, you see that one time this person is the abuser, next time the other partner is the abuser. Sometimes you see it’s a cycle of violence,” Mashburn said.
On Tuesday, police say Black was covered in blood and had scratches all over his face and neck.
However, he wouldn’t tell them why part of Garcia’s finger was missing.
Prosecutors charged Black with maiming because he has permanently disfigured Garcia, who is still missing part of her finger.
“It has to be pretty significant injuries to trigger that,” Mashburn said.
The judge ordered Black not to have any contact with Garcia.
If convicted on the maiming charge, he could face up to life in prison.
