BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (CBS) -- One person is dead and another is critically wounded after a shooting at a WeatherTech facility Saturday morning.
Police said around 6:25 a.m., officers were dispatched to WeatherTech Way for reports of a person shot.
Police confirmed one persond, another is in critical condition, and a third victim has been released from the hospital.
The alleged shooter, who police have identified as Charles C. McKnight Jr, of Chicago, fled the building but was located at the back of a home in the 500 block of Larkspur Lane and taken into custody at approximately 9:26 am. Police also recovered a handgun.
Police say the preliminary investigation indicated that near the end of the overnight shift, employees at WeatherTech confronted McKnight for allegedly robbing two coworkers, stealing a watch and a wallet at gunpoint. This started an argument that led to the shooting, which police say does not appear to be premeditated.
Upon his arrest, police found McKnight to have the items from the robbery.
The victims are all WeatherTech employees. The victim who died has been identified as Central Hightower, 37, from Plainfield, Illinois. The victim who is in critical condition is a 25-year-old man and was also one of the earlier robbery victims, police said. The third victim is a 43-year-old man.
McKnight was with a temporary employment agency, police said. He has been assigned to the WeatherTech facility since June 9.
McKnight was transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility Saturday night and is expected to be arraigned in bond court Sunday.
