TOMBALL – A distraught man is barricaded in his son's room at the Tomball Regional Medical Center, according to a clarification by the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

According to officials, the man is inside the hospital room with his son in the critical care unit and is concerned with his son's medical condition.

Sheriff's officials said the floor has been restricted and negotiators are communicating with the man.

It's unknown if the man is carrying a gun, according to sheriff's officials.

Sheriff's officials said that the man made an initial threat inside the hospital, which prompted a call to the Tomball Police Department and to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The man has not made any other threats or demands, said Detective Jimmy Harral of the Tomball Police Department.

There are no hospital employees hostage, according to Harral. Patients and employees are being told to stay in their rooms.

A hospital spokesman said that the hospital is currently on lockdown.

It's still an active scene and negotiations are ongoing, sheriff's officials said.

Sheriff's Office: Man at Texas Hospital Has Surrendered

Authorities say the father of a patient at a Texas hospital who became distraught over his son's condition has surrendered without incident. They said he did not have a weapon.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said Saturday night that the man had been with his adult son inside a hospital room in the critical care unit of the Tomball Regional Medical Center. Authorities had earlier said they believed he was holding at least two hostages.

Harris County Sheriff's Lt. Joe Ambriz said a threatening situation arose around 7 p.m., but wouldn't describe it or any details about the son's condition. Authorities said around 11 p.m. that the man was in custody and the hospital was no longer under any lockdown.

The hospital is about 30 miles northwest of Houston.
