You can make an educated guess as to what your deductions will be if you monitor what you deducted the previous year or two. Mortgage interest, student loan interest, sales tax (credit card companies generate year-end statements that break down what you spent, which makes it way easier to claim a custom sales tax deduction instead of the standard one). I'm also diligent about updating my W-4 whenever me or the wife gets a pay bump. Fill out the worksheet to the best of your ability, and you'll maximize what you take home in your paycheck.
