Brehs, I’ve been a manager in some capacity since 2014 (group lead > team lead > dept. manager with a promotion every 2 years). I’m loving the money and making well over 6 figs and trying my best not to fall too in love with the power but the stress can be on a whole other level sometimes. I’m over multiple team leads in a department >60 people and the fukkery can get out of control between those that report to me and my Senior managers. Anybody else have something similar going on? If so, how do you cope?

im no where near that level but..

ive been an assistant manager for quite a while and often co-ordinate the most between the manager and the other employees because i also do what the other employees do.

so you can discount my advice if you want but i would say the most important thing is being fair and resolute. you have to be able to adapt to who you are dealing with but have to also try to balance that by not being biased towards an individual or group of individuals. that is when everything else is equal among the other parties.

if one group is performing significantly better than the other group then you should still be fair..but it is obviously understandable to be tougher on the underachieving group because that is also fair. it is fair to expect them to perform better if they are not hitting their goals.

Biggest adjustment for me was what I consider a W

before, a W would be if I did some great work on a project or delivered a great presentation or something like that

now a W is keeping shyt running smoothly with the senior execs above me, and then debugging and unblocking for my junior resources. So it’s a mindset shift
