:wow: I was listening to this scientist talking about climate change and the future of mankind.

As yall know we are already in the worst case scenario we predicted decades ago when it comes to the environment. Only thing we could do (we're not) is make it less horrible and manageable if we altogether tried to de-grow, shrink or whatever you want to call it.

Someone talked about economic realities preventing it from happening. Dude reminded that the only realities are climatic, natural, and that economy, finance, etc, are virtual human rules that we won't ditch even though we're going to go through it within the next 30 years.

"That's like playing monopoly in a house on fire, and saying that we absolutely have to finish the game"

:wow: Mankind gonna be killed off by cognitive dissonance. Crazy thing to be too evolved and not enough at the same time.

The corporations arent going to lose profits so the country is habitable 200 years from now. They dont give a fukk, so im not stressing it.
Crazy thing that a number (profit) is worth more than our global future.

This is a deep nihilism or a cognitive defect.

We (the people, especially in developed countries) are responsible too.

On the scale of responsibility its Corporations 99.97% and Average Joe .03%.

The wealthy will survive and the rest are sheep and cattle. So nothing will change
But the thing is the sheeps could take over the wealthy in a day if they wanted to. But talk to people about the aftermath, sharing ressources, giving up on our phones or hot showers for a world where nature takes back its place and materialism isn't the wave... They will get angry at you just like the wealthy.

We don't want to relinquish our little comfort. That's everyone.

If a candidate came out tomorrow and said: "my priority is to ensure we can live here together in a 30 years, so I want -3% of growth for next year"

How many votes is he going to get?

Corporations wouldn't exist without the demand. We all in it and want the products, even when we know the impact.

The product? Such as food, clothing, the means to get to work? Yeah humans should be blamed for wanting the means to sustain their own life. What im speaking to is the climate corporations create that shuts down viable competition, information, choice for the average person. I need a way to get to work, but when the construction lobby has politicians in their pocket so the only means of infrastructure that will be considered is more roads then i have to buy a car to get to work.

If we take meat for example (I'm a meat eater). We know today that:
  • Its production is one of the biggest factors of pollution on the planet and contributes to Co2 emissions and global warming
  • Horrendous treatment of animals
  • Not necessarily to live in good health
The random meat eater knows that but won't stop to be a part of the demand alimenting the problem.

I'm not casting stones at people in poverty or to the dude that throws his paper in the street. You're right about the fact they're not the ones who're polluting.

But at the same time, we have the politics and industries we deserve and that reflect us'

Anyone who is "worth" anything will be on Mars for Earth 2.0 whilst everyone else will be left on a bombed out and purposefully depleted planet.
