Many people feel the 1985 NBA Draft was fixed for Ewing to the Knicks...

“The proposed deal would have sent Lamar Odom from the Lakers to New Orleans and Pau Gasol from the Lakers to Houston. The Rockets also had agreed to send forward Louis Scola, shooting guard Kevin Martin, point guard Goran Dragic and a first-round draft choice to New Orleans.”

Had it gone down, the Lakers wouldn’t have been much better. Gaining Paul but losing Odom and Gasol would have been bad.

I mean maybe Odom was already on his way out but Gasol was still more valuable and carried the front court better than Bynum.

CP3 and Kobe would have been a great back court but the Lakers would have lacked depth and experience everywhere else. Probably 2nd round playoff exit just the same.
:hubie:
I said the same thing back then, dudes argued with me. But wasn’t Dwight in the fold to play with them?

That '85 draft had four HOF'rs and two other solid all-star players. :ehh: Not far behind the top talent in the '84 class.

It's funny how things worked out.... Knicks already had Cartwright, they probably would've been better off long term had they taken the Mailman. Hindsight is always 20/20, though.

Every Cavs #1 pick was planned, no way you can convince me otherwise. First was to get the hometown kid, second was to make up for lebron leaving, and the next to were to rebuild the franchise to attract lebron for a return. Three #1 picks in four seasons, in a lottery…gtfoh

its the only non-gambling nba conspiracy I believe
I believe the 2019 draft had some "design" to it, also.Everybody & their mama knew AD was going to the Lakers.Coincidentally, both teams "moved up" in the Draft Lottery.Pels got the 1st pick to replace AD's star power/marketability with Zion.Lakers jumped all the way up to #4 to sweeten the deal.Shamelessly.Right in your face. The average fan will just brush it off.Even the 2015 draft. The Timberwolves were notorious for having the worst draft luck.Could never land the #1 pick. They trade Kevin Love to the Cavs, and whola!Compensated with their first #1 overall pick.Honestly, the 2011-2015 drafts all revolved around the Cavs/LeBron.With the exception of of maybe 2012.The NBA itself was in temporary ownership of the Hornets/Pels and just awarded themselves Anthony Davis.I don't think all drafts are manipulated, but a lot of them are.2019, they were back at it to get Bron his running mate.I don't know if they expected AD to be so damn brittle.

How did they get 3 #1s in four years when LeBron was drafted in '03 and left in '10? :ohhh:

They won the lottery in '11, '13, and '14 while Bron was in Miami.Timberwolves were rewarded the #1 overall pick in '15 for trading K Love to the Cavs.Grand plan to stock the Cavs with potential top line talent while Bron chased multiple ships with the Heat.Followed by the Jordanesque "I'm Back!" moment in his return home to the Cavs.I think they already knew he'd go back.Big business.Main characters, storylines, and narratives keep us engaged. Before the move to Miami, Cleveland was in purgatory.Had a hard time attracting free agents, zero trade chips, and were too good with Bron to get any decent draft picks. The plan worked. They came out of it with Love, Kyrie, and it was good enough to win a Ship:yeshrug:

Exactly I agree and I’m a Cavs fan and on top of that during this time frame we made so many bad selections

Oh thanks for the clarification. The way he @Ed MOTHEREFFING G wrote the post with "the next to" instead of "the next two" had me confused.
