It's surreal to see comments disparaging the kids like they don't have a reason to be concerned.
I left my hometown for 25 years cause I thought it was becoming a place where someone might open fire randomly. And I didn't wanna be there every day just hoping my luck holds up.
Why wouldn't they get desperate? Especially the ones who
SAW THEIR FRIENDS DIE
So.
There are factories manufacuring guns by the trailer load and those guns are being handed out as fast as they can make them.
Until that changes, America CAN'T change. The problem is guns are pervasive. Especially among the mean spirited. No matter how many nice things gun people imagine they might do with guns.. the main thing the *actually* do is kill people. I heard a stat that more American citizens have died at the hands of others via gunshot than *all American soldiers to ever die in war*. That's no glitch or unintended consequence (like auto deaths). There is no positive usage of guns that's so good and wonderful that the body count is worth it, right?
You think hundreds of thousands of citizens should die so a few people can hunt? Hunt animals for fun not out of need. That's not worth the price. Even if hunting were that important, you could keep the hunting rifles and get rid of the guns designed for bank robbery.
Conversation used to seem important to me but the internet has created a space where we just shout at one another and no one is actually exchanging ideas.
I'm seeing that irrational tone on this issue and it's a waste of time to approach dogmatic zeal with facts and logic.
But if you have a shred of intelligent truth seeker inside you: you understand why *kids* are so freaked out about being *gunned down in school*. If not, have enough respect to try to imagine what they (And WE) are going through.
