Mariota is a shyttier Colin Kaepernick (and he'll end up a Alex Smith clone)

I looked at Mariota's OSU and FSU games. This is my scouting report:

- Can go through 1-2 progressions comfortably but gets unsettled when the first read isn't there. Completion rate falls of a cliff after 1st read.
- Great improviser and scrambler a la Manziel and Russell Wilson. Can make time to throw very well.
- Above average but not great accuracy. Missed throws a more accurate QB would make against both Ohio State and FSU.
- Above average arm strength.
- Doesn't often make throws into tight windows and had trouble doing so against both Ohio State and FSU.

----
Projection:

Mariota is athletically like Kaepernick, but lacks the arm strength and ability to test tight windows. He goes through his progressions better and sits in the pocket more, but his unwillingness or inability to test windows will mean he projects to play more like Alex Smith than anyone else. That is, when Mariota moves onto his 2nd read, he'll have to throw into a tighter window than he's accustomed with the end result either being turnovers (i.e. Kaepernick) or aversion (i.e. Alex Smith). I believe he'll gravitate toward the latter and end up a more athletic Alex Smith clone. In other words, Mariota is an overrated bust.

Doesn't have kaps arm strength

He's athletically similar to Kaepernick, but projects to play more like an Alex Smith with less accuracy. I think he'll enter the league trying to test windows, fail and resort to playing safe like Smith. That means he's a bust at worst and an average starter at best his first couple of years.

Rotoworld's player profiler says Mariota's best comparison is Colin Kaepernick too: Marcus Mariota - Player Profiler

Mariota can't play like Kaepernick though. He'll have to settle for safe throws and play within the system more. Who does that remind you of?

Well I watched more than two games of mariota and can tell you he is a better passer than kaep, but doesn't have the arm stregnth. Marcus also isn't the scrambler kaep is, it isnt his first instinct.

Mariota did a good job fighting through tough spots than what I'd trust kaepernick doing like vs Michigan St this year...osu was just Better than oregon in every way at the end of the year.

I'd say he is more like Wilson than Kaep.

Everybody talks about how smart Mariota is, to the point where they make him sound like Russell Wilson, but this Kaepernick comparison is pretty much on point.

Even if he is Russell Wilson mentally, his success is going to be based on how much Whisenhunt allows him to run.

They can't try to make him a pocket passer like the 49ers did with Kaepernick, especially when they know his running ability is a major part of what makes him successful.

Yall tripping MariGOATa will be a great QB in the league quote me  it will def depend on Whisenhunt offense and the run game but I believe he should be fine. I just need our defense to be more beastly so the goat won't feel like he is pressured to always be a playmaker.

It blows my mind that it was ever a discussion between him and Jameis.. Jameis is a legit NFL QB.. Mariota will not be in the league by 2020

and he knows it too

That's why he's trying to get every cent he can out of the Titans for his Rookie contract

I disagree. Mariota's accuracy is a little better than Kaepernick's but not enough to overcome the fact he can't test the windows Kaepernick can downfield. Alex Smith is similar. He has better accuracy than many other QBs but just not good enough overall to overcome the fact he can't test tight windows downfield. Moving on, I believe Marcus is actually a very instinctive scrambler on the run. He often flashes better accuracy on the run than in the pocket, similar to Kaeperick and other running QBs like Wilson.

Mariota did a good job fighting through tough spots than what I'd trust kaepernick doing like vs Michigan St this year...osu was just Better than oregon in every way at the end of the year.

Mariota needs a guy open or near open to make a play, or else he just scrambles. Kaepernick is similar but Kaepernick can also throw downfield. I'd rather Kaepernick.

He doesn't have Wilson's accuracy or willingness to test tight windows. He also runs more like Keepernick than Wilson but I digress, how does Mariota emulate Wilson in Whisenhunt's scheme without Wilson's downfield ability? If he runs and only throws when people are half open, he's Alex Smith not Russell Wilson.
