During an appearance on “TMZ Inside The Ring,” WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry addressed recent online criticism regarding the pay of NXT standout Je’Von Evans. The conversation stemmed from the topic of Joe Hendry’s reported salary, with Henry pivoting to discuss the economics of young talent in the industry.
When discussing whether younger or newer talent deserves high pay right away, Henry used Evans as a prime example of a long-term investment.
“Je’Von Evans, I’m sure he’s not making big time player money. He’s making a nice little hunk of change, but I guarantee his next contract they gonna pay him through the nose because they don’t want him to go nowhere else,” Henry stated.
Henry dismissed the idea that Evans should earn less simply due to his age. “Does he? Does he deserve less? No, because he’s young and he’s got that dude will be wrestling 20 years from now,” Henry argued.
He broke down the potential longevity of Evans’ career, highlighting why he is valuable now and in the future. “If he’s 20 or 21 years old with his talent and the way that he understands the business… he’s going to slow down in about 12 years… and then in about 15 years he’ll be in his championship area… if he’s blessed to have 20 more years, there’s no rush”.
Henry concluded by criticizing those who pocket-watch others in the industry. “There’s enough money going around for everybody. The people… that complain about other people’s money, are people that either don’t have none, or they failed… and they’re envious and jealous of it”.
