This is true. The said thing is that the chances of a Black boy being a successful professional is actually higher than him being a Pro Ball player

Black fathers are often disappointed if their sons aren’t good at sports.

I think this borders on being a gross generalization. Who are these black fathers? My father wanted his sons to read, gain knowledge, and develop a capacity to critically examine information before forming an opinion - in other words, he wanted us to think. :francis:

I agree with this
Or at least allboys school through middle school

I only did that from 7th-9th grade but I haven’t had a piece of mind like that time ever since

Builds proper character

you need it through h.s. as well..... little known fact: most black fathers have their kids before 23........ you kind of raise the age of first time births for black fathers by having the all male schools k-12....... its cheap to do as well, you dont have to build new schools....

they always rationalize generalizing black men.... its what they do.... but what he is talking about is off; arent 80% of households led by women? who do you think is encouraging black american boys into paths that arent based in academia?...... bingo

done some tutoring, mentoring, and career days. biggest part of my discussions are always emphasizing the student part of student-athlete.

sports are great for team building, leadership skills, socializing, health, and staying out of trouble. i think all boys and girls should be involved in a sport during their school years. sets a very good precident for lifelong health commitment and self esteem.

that said, i'm fed up with people not making real comments about how many professions don't get shine. electricians, financial advisors, culinary chefs, facility managers for sports, etc...there are so many real professions where black men are underrepresented that earn well and we can excel at but not enough people talk about it. we can't let hating azz teachers or professors tell us what our life opportunities are. keep speaking up brehs and brehettes!

Just force your kids to do the homework, if it's not good quality homework there are plenty of internet resources. Just make sure the work gets done, with a focus on STEM. Just like Asian/Indian/African "tiger parents". Even if they don't have a "dream" of being in STEM, they will on average be much better off if you force them to get good at it.
