Martin Scorsese‘s “Silence” will be getting an awards-season run.

The film will open limited on December 23, 2016, and then go wide in January 2017.

“Silence” is a historic drama based on the novel by Shūsaku Endō. It is produced by Scorsese, Paul Breuls, Vittorio Cecchi Gori, Barbara De Fina, Randall Emmett, George Furla, Emma Tillinger Koksoff and Irwin Winkler.

The script was adapted by Scorsese and Jay Cocks, and stars Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson.

The film has been in development for over two decades with various actors like Daniel Day-Lewis having been attached before moving on to other projects.

Last year, there was a tragic death on the set of “Silence.” The film was in pre-production at Taiwan’s CMPC Studios. After the production deemed a structure on the backlot unsafe for use, a contractor was hired to reinforce it.

It was during this work that a ceiling collapsed, resulting in the death of one of the contractor’s employees and injuries to two others.

Scorsese’s recent credits include producing “The Wolf of Wall Street,” serving as executive producer on TV series “Boardwalk Empire” and “Vinyl,” and working as an executive producer on Miles Teller‘s boxing drama “Bleed for This.”

He is working on projects like “Sinatra,” “Tomorrow” and “The Snowman,” the latter starring Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson and Chloe Sevigny.

shyt was giving me "The Master" type vibes :patrice:

Not in story, but just...idk. Seemed like a PT Anderson type film.
PT Anderson huh..so something I'll watch and enjoy but never have the desire to revisit? :sas2:

If this movie is supposedly coming next month I have no clue why they took down the trailer :mindblown:

I was about to say, Andrew Garfield outchea selling religion again. :russ:

I do get a bit of "The Master" vibes from this as well, but mostly because of the music they used in the trailer.
