Marvel Has A Short List of Directors For The Dr. Strange Movie...Still Nothing On Black Panther

With Ant-Man in preproduction mode with casting well underway and the marketing rollout for Guardian of the Galaxy off to a rip-roaring start, Marvel Studios is tackling its next challenge: conjuring up the filmmaker for Doctor Strange.

Four contenders in particular have either met or are about to meet with Marvel higher-ups to bring the adventures of Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme to the screen: Mark Andrews, who co-wrote and co-directed Pixar's Brave; Nikolaj Arcel, who wrote and directed last year's best foreign film Oscar-nominated entry A Royal Affair; Dean Israelite, the helmer behind Paramount's upcoming sci-fi time-travel movie Welcome to Yesterday; and Jonathan Levine, the filmmaker behind Warm Bodies and 50/50.

Jon Aibel and Glenn Berger, the writers behind the Kung Fu Panda movies, are also in the mix, not to direct the movie but to pen the screenplay.

I know I saw that yesterday. the last rumor I heard about Dr. Strange is Marvel is trying to get Johnny Depp to play him. So maybe that's the reason they moving the production forward so fast with his automatic star power if the rumor is true.

Latino Review is reporting that Marvel Studios has taken a meeting with Johnny Depp to discuss him potentially starring as Stephen Strange in their long gestating Doctor Strange film. This remains a rumor for the time being, as Variety claims "such talks have yet to take place and any possibility of such a pairing is premature." Check back here for further updates on the matter as we learn them.
A film based on Doctor Strange has been in development for some time, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously saying: "He checks the box off this criteria that I have: he’s totally different from anything else we have." Marvel has already set release dates for three untitled films in 2016 and 2017, could one of them be Doctor Strange?

Time to just give up...the next set of movies is pretty much in the works and Black Panther ain't one of 'em. I'm pretty hype to see Dr. Strange though.

Yeah, but Disney for the most part lets Marvel do its thing. Of course Marvel had no trouble coughing up the dough to keep RDJ on board for as long as possible so maybe they'll actually invest in Depp.

I'm looking forward to a Dr. Strange movie, tho I kinda want another actor cuz I feel like Depp is too obvious of a choice.

more people are checking for Kevin Hart in 2014 than Johnny Depp breh. Far more Charismatic. Having learned that they did a race change in the new Fantastic 4 film, they should seriously consider giving Kevin Hart a look for this part. Him and Johnny are both the same height anyways.
