The song of the summer could end up as the legal battle of the fall.

Marvin Gaye's son hinted that the estate of the late R&B singer would take legal action against Robin Thicke over his hit song “Blurred Lines.”

In an interview on TMZ Live Wednesday, Marvin Gaye III told the gossip site that, “There’s a way to business and a way to not do business.

“We’re not happy with the way that he went about doing business let alone suing us for something where he clearly got his inspiration from at the least,” Gaye said, flanked by his wife, Wendy, and a family spokesman. “That’s caused my family a lot of duress.”

Gaye, himself a singer, took issue with Thicke’s pre-emptive strike last week in a Los Angeles court. Lawyers for Thicke and “Blurred Lines” collaborators, Pharrell Williams and T.I. had filed requesting dismissal of future claims that their song copies any previous songs — including Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up.” (Critics have also charged Thicke’s hit borrows equally from Funkadelic’s “Sexy Ways.”)

“Yes, if you listen to the music, I’m sure anyone will see the similarities between what my father does and what Robin Thick has been trying to do,” Gaye’s son told TMZ.

Though Gaye said he was offended by Thicke’s legal maneuvering, it may have been a smart strategic move.
When asked point blank by TMZ if he’s going to sue Thicke, he answered: “What do you think?”

So artists are gonna start getting sued from being inspired by a certain sound/era?

I dunno, the sound is similar. It's almost like he sampled the drums. But other than that come on man.

No way in hell he wins a lawsuit. Nor should he.

Unless they DIRECTLY sampled audio from Marvin's song.....other than that, they can't lose.
