So the loose gun laws of surrounding states had nothing to do with it. Illinois state police fukked up and failed to properly enforce their own state’s firearms licensing laws. The police confiscated his knives after he was making threats. He did not have an Illinois gun license at the time which they could revoke. What they failed to do was enter the incident into records so he would be flagged and prevented from getting a license.
This is the fatal flaw of Gun Control. The Police will always not enforce it as hard on white people, the way they will on black people. Just like with the War on Drugs, White people were the ones doing all the drugs. but black people found themselves targeted and disproportionately put in jail.
Buffalo, Uvalde, and now this is showing the gross negligence of American police.
Theres always mention of setting up a national database that can help determine if someone should be allowed to purchase, but it would have to have good data to be useful. Police would have to enter in accurate data anytime theres a run-in with law enforcement. Anytime theres a visit to a mental health facility that facility would also need to enter in data. It's too many organizations that would have to continuously make sure they entering in all data or else the whole database thing is useless
