9 people shot , one male & one female killed


Two people were killed and seven others were injured in a mass shooting in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom neighborhood early Saturday morning, February 21, 2026. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. on North 18th Street, near the 0–100 block, during what police describe as a fight that escalated into gunfire.

  • Victims:
    • Genesis Jones, 23, of Petersburg, was identified as a victim. She was celebrating her brother’s birthday and was an innocent bystander.
    • Dominic Jackson, 42, of Henrico, was the second fatality.
    • Seven other adults were shot: one man remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, and six others have non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Details:
    • An officer on patrol saw a large commotion and cars speeding away before arriving at the scene.
    • Police confirmed multiple shooters, with Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards stating, “There were at least two shooters.”
    • Several vehicles were hit by bullets, and forensic teams are processing a large crime scene.
    • The area was shut down from 17th to 19th Streets and around 18th and Franklin.
  • Investigation:
    • No suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made.
    • Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and using technology to identify those involved.

Not for nothing but I'm a little miffed at the generalization of everything as a "mass shooting" nowadays. I know it technically fits the description, but these types of "mass shootings" been going on forever and only recently started being categorized as such, like in the early 2020s.

This is in Richmond, this city has had countless shootings like this in generations past, it was once considered the most dangerous city in America in the 90s.

Sounds like two groups shooting at each other indiscriminately and killed potentially two unrelated individuals in the process.

I don't get it. Leave gun in car, leave car unlocked.

Is this a way of getting guns to criminals, because surely people cant be this stupid?

Haven't been to shockoe bottom in 10 years. Had many good times found there but back in the day many were killed down there.

Last time I went to the bottom nikkas was out there with ARs just posted up chillin. Mfs was flexing open carry extra hard. Cops didnt give no fukks either. But yeah mfs quick to up the pole down there.
