The writing from Celine here wasn’t as deep as Past Lives, nor did I think it would’ve been, but this was an enjoyable watch nonetheless. Nothing crazy. A lot of critics had Evans as the standout performer and I would have to agree. He arguably carries it. Good on him after that Red One mess.
Dakota is someone who I think is a capable actress when given good material. I like her in stuff like this or the featured works with Guadagnino. Wasn’t particularly buying the chemistry between her and Pedro in this and there were moments where I thought she came across as wooden, through the cadence of her voice even, but it worked for someone portraying a woman who reeked of those materialistic ideals.
#ShortGang catching strays left and right.
The twist with Pedro was fukkin’ absurd, lol. Made me think of the TLR thread with the breh who actually went through with that leg lengthening shyt.
It’s NEVER that serious.
I gave it a 3.5/5. Not sure I needed a reminder on how brutal the dating market can be and the story definitely could’ve gotten nastier than it did, but the flick had a lot of charm. Celine hasn’t missed yet for me.
