Is this a fair shake?

Did Roy Jones ever have the level of competition that Floyd Mayweather did? I'm going to say no.

I still remember my face the day that Bruce Seldon came back for his first fight since the first round KO from Tyson . . . the night that Antonio Tarver knocked out Roy Jones Jr.

Roy Jones Jr. was 49-1 before that night . . . with that 1 being a disqualification in a fight that he was winning by considerable margin

That's only because Floyd would never jump up to snatch a title at 168 and then defend a 147 title in the same year because he's smart enough to know that'd completely destroy his body. RJJr is the perfect example of a guy who was a 100% true to the game warrior and gets punished for it. Let's never take away from the fact that this man made a heavyweight champion look like slight work and then dropped down to light heavyweight 6 months later and defended his title. Never will we see anything like that again in our lifetimes, y'all Floyd nuthuggers need to put some respeck on my GOATs name.:wow:

considerable is not the word..montell was dropped in the fight before the DQ and the scores were very close..montell was up by 1 and only losing by 1 and 2 on other cards...that late in the fight with a prime roy..he was still in the fight score wise..the DQ was unfortunate but it wasn't a way out type of win..he took rounds off roy

Roy Jones Jr. faced a higher level of competition than Floyd Mayweather and imo on tape there is NOTHING like prime Roy Jones Jr. Never seen anything like this nikka. Shoulda just retired after handing Ruiz that 119 or stayed at heavyweight :wow:

Higher level of competition? Are we making adjustments based on the weight jumps?

Stupid comparison. Floyd never went up that far in weight and came back down.

And to be real about it, if Floyd keeps fighting until he's 45 (against actual boxers and not clown shows like we'll see next weekend), he's gonna end up getting that same treatment everybody else got. Father Time is undefeated for a reason.

OK..he lost after going to Heavyweight in his 30s and not being as reflexive as usual. But Roy at his best is better than Floyd at his best. Roy would rarely lose rounds.

There is no one In the HISTORY OF BOXING Like prime Roy Jones. No one. Sugar Ray Robinson is the guy that is the closest you can speak on in that level and I love Floyd's style and his best performances but he is not as talented as Roy Jones was. The angles...the speed....the misdirection..the feints...when he even tried to work a jab, it was ultra efficient. Nothing like him. Never will be again.

Roys boxing style was more reliant on his speed and reflexes which is why Hopkins, james toney and floyd had more longevity
And they didn't put on 20 lbs of weight to go to Heavyweight and go back down to their regular division past their prime. That's also why.

Castillo seemed to be up on Floyd the first fight and if you don't have a trained eye, it looks like he won the first fight....he did much more than take rounds off of prime Floyd...he looked like a winner to some. But Roy eventually broke Griffin down and had him finished.
