Maybe I'm tripping, but Selma+Snowden+POTUS Speech

So I'm watching the POTUS speech in Selma, Alabama and he said something that kind of jolted me. something along the lines of "Shaking the status quo is what makes us unique. Speaking out". even said that it requires someone to shake things up to make things right, but yet Snowden didn't get a praise or pat on the back for his leaks of NSA documents and that shyt even Human Civil Rights, didn't have anything to do with color.

before you begin, no, I am not equating Black Civil Rights with a NSA contractor leaking documents. but what I am equating is the very basic ideology behind both and that being "Spark some shyt, change some shyt".

I don't get politics man.
